    Alright, do not get all “mad/pissed/anger” at the fact that the word “nigga/nigger” whichever form was used in the song.

    Just because he is not “black”, doesn’t mean anything.

    That word should not be used by anybody, but it is a common word used in Hip Hop no matter what country or “skin color of the person using it”.

    I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean anything by it, my god for crying out loud they listen to hip hop, i’m not saying what do you expect. Just like everyone else who raps (i.e. Hispanics) they use the “N” word too.

    *Ahem* Fat Joe, Big Pun, N.O.R.E, remember them? They’re not “black” yet they use the “N” word in there Rap/Hip Hop songs.

    Oh yeah, by the way, I am black too. Getting all hype about that word is not necessary, it’s ignorant to get mad at the word, remember it’s just a word.

    Remeber it comes from SLAVERY remember? That really wasn’t to long ago. Origin ‘negro’, then the white man turned it into ‘nigger, then we (actually I am going to exclude myself out of that we) black people say ‘nigga’. So, what exactly is the reaction to all of this?

    Nothing.

    So, before you get mad at the next asian, (or vice-versa krnkobra) or hispanic, or white person that says the “N” word. It should actually roll off your shoulders.

    I hope you take what I said into consideration.

    Hello. =] I just wanted to leave you a comment regarding the whole YG mess. Man, I don’t even know where to start since the whole thing escalated so much. I’ll start from the beginning [makes sense, right? xD haha]

    [I'm Korean, by the way.]

    I understand that you were upset by the comment Seungri made. I was upset by the comment as well. He should not have said that. It was wrong. I totally get that. And yes, YG should have formally apologized, or at least posted an apology on the YG website board. The whole apology thing makes sense to me. But honestly, you gotta understand them as well. You gotta look at this from both sides. It was wrong of him but also.. perhaps he lacks the experience [lacks contact with African Americans]. There aren’t a lot of African Americans in Korea so he may have assumed that the stereotype of African Americans is true. But is it his fault? Yes and no. It was a terrible comment but try to understand him as well. Don’t give me this crap about Koreans not being able to understand like you said to krnbora. “You WILL NEVER EVER UNDERSTAND” I understand completely. I understand that many African Americans take offense to it and I’m sorry he said it. But stop dramatizing this shit. You claim to be a YG fan and yet you seem to be hating on them so much. What kind of fan is that? You seem more like an anti-fan to me. But that’s just my opinion.

    Also, the whole deal with Masta Wu using the word ‘nigga’ in his song. Dude, chill the fuck out, okay? It’s not a good word to use. [Personally, I don't use it. Ever.] But what can you do? Nothing. You know why nothing can be done? Because it would be nearly impossible to get everyone to stop using the word. It’s not the first time the word ‘nigga’ was used in a hiphop song. It’s a popular word. I hear it in hiphop songs a lot. So why is it that you insist on attacking Masta Wu using that word in his song? Why aren’t you making a big deal about it regarding the American artists? If you are only attacking the Korean hiphop artist Masta Wu for this, then you are discriminating against Koreans. Wouldn’t that mean you’re racist as well? Isn’t racism what you’re going against? Man. If you have only attacked the Koreans on using the word ‘nigga’ so far, then girl, I’m sorry to say but YOU ARE A HYPROCRITE. [If you attack the American hiphop artists as well, then I will definitely take my statement back. But until I see it happen, you'll seem like a total hyprocrite to me. I'm sorry if I seem mean or anything, I'm really not trying to be. I'm actually pretty neutral regarding this whole thing. I understand both view points.] Anyway, back to what I was saying. Don’t get pissed about it. I know it’s a bad word but dude, you hear it in hiphop songs all the fuckin’ time. You know the Koreans listen to American music. Therefore, if you’re gonna get pissed at Koreans, you should start with Americans. Shit, you should get pissed at the African Americans [not everyone, of course] too since they use the word. And honestly, how do you think the Koreans got to know that word? THey sure as heck did not come up with the word on their own. It’s not even a Korean word. It’s an english word, meaning.. it had to come from the Americans. So why aren’t you bitching at the Americans for this? Also, it’s not like he means anything bad by it. In your post, I’m pretty sure that I read that the song was about Masta Wu and Teddy. So what’s wrong with it? Is it only okay for African Americans to use that word? I mean.. honestly, no one should be using the word. So quit attacking Masta Wu and YG Entertainment! Just chill and go with the flow. If you don’t like it, then just cut YG out of your life instead of wasting your time by bashing YG and coming up with new things to say about them. Also, if you’re a YG fan, why the heck would you have a site that says “YG Family: Friend or Foe”? Oh yeah, you know.. I’m sure every YG fan has a site trying to determine whether YG is good or not. I mean, come on. Why wouldn’t they, right? DO YOU SEE HOW SILLY THIS SOUNDS? -_-” I’m sorry if my comments seem a bit harsh. But honestly, you are just dramatizing everything too much. Just chill out, okay? I know I’m repeating that statement but seriously, you gotta learn to chill. Oh yeah, I also remember you said to krnbora “you are not offended by racist comments” or something like that. It’s not a direct quote or anything because I can’t memorize everything exactly the way you typed it but yeah anyway, anyone would be offended by racist comments. It doesn’t matter what race they are. I’m pretty sure that most people, regardless of race, will be offended if they hear a racist comment regarding their own race. So how the fuck are you gonna tell her she’s not offended by it? Why would you assume such a thing? -_-”

    Anyway, whatever, okay? Fuck the drama. Forget this whole nonsense. It was bad of him, BUT IT’S OVER. Stop trying to keep that horrible moment alive. Let’s just bury it and pray that it never happens again. I’m sure he won’t make that same mistake twice.

    P.S. I may not be African American, but I understand this shit too. So don’t bother telling me that I don’t understand CUZ I UNDERSTAND PLENTY. I’m not some ignorant fool trying to attack you for this. I understand your point. But don’t you think you’re getting a bit carried away? I mean.. Honestly, at first.. I thought it was pretty cool of you to write a letter to YG like that. But now, the shit you’re doing just seems stupid and pointless. I’m sorry for being mean but stop wasting your time. Go out and have fun. Live your life. Don’t waste it trying to bash YG and get an apology. It’s been a while since you posted that letter, hasn’t it? If YG has yet to reply, then don’t you think that means that you won’t be getting a reply? What’s posting and re-posting the same comment over and over gonna do? NOTHING. So just stop. Stop bugging YG about that shit and just MOVE ON with your life. Don’t get stuck in the past. It’s not a good thing.

    hi everybody :)

    i’m tiffany, the person who first suggested we write letters to YG ent. expressing our disappointment over what Seung Ri said.

    i’d like to comment on everything and i’ll try not to get all emo lol.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    anonymous #1: lol how random..yet completely welcome…^_^
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    anonymous #2: i’m trying real hard to understand your point, but as a black woman, i don’t see how you can let the ”N” word ‘roll off your shoulders’ or any negative connotation towards the black race.

    yes American rappers use the word. yes everyday black people use the word as well. but let me ask you: just because they do it, does that make it right? all of the hardships and pain that our people have had to go thru to be seen as equals in the eyes of the rest of the country and black people still use that word…trying to ”make it a positive”…when it will never be. what other race do you see running aournd calling each other a derogatory term?

    Asians don’t call each other ”chink” …Caucasians don’t go around saying ”cracker”
    i’ve never heard Latinos saying ”what up my wetback”

    it’s only ignorant black people who continue to use ”nigga/er” …and imo it will never be cool. don’t you see that most of the time when other races use the word they are mocking black people for their idiocy?

    Fat Joe, Nore, Pun…ok they use it…but only because they had a ”ghetto pass” so to speak. and that’s just as bad. if Ricky Martin were to say it…what do you think would happen….lol

    when ever people make that argument that American Rappers do it so it’s ok, i always think of that saying: if everybody ran and jumped off a bridge would you?

    lol it amazes me how people will try to rationalize ignorance.

    as for the the whole ”negro->nigger->nigga” thing you said…it’s partially correct. Blacks say ”nigga” not because we tried to make it cool..but because the SLAVES were uneducated and any word ending in ‘er’ was pretty much said with an ‘a’ (ex; master->massa)

    however you may be right about Masta Wu not meaning anything negative saying it, but i still felt a bit put off by him saying it.

    i cannot speak for cindel but i have expressed my disgust towards BET and other artists about their representation of us….they told me that they weren’t/couldn’t do anything about it…which is why i have stopped buying/listening and watching any of their products.

    anonymous #3:
    when people say ”oh seungri doesn’t come in contact with many black people” it kinda makes me feel like excuses are being made..because he has come into contact with Black men. and to my knowledge these men have been nothing of the sort of gangster that would shoot someone so for people to say that he’s going by his experiences i feel thats baloney.

    ~~~~~~~~
    ok i’m getting tired of typing now..lol i’ll prolly come back tomorrow and finish/clarify my thoughts, but if you all want, i’m on soompi so you can contact me there.
    [Asians don't call each other ''chink'' ...Caucasians don't go around saying ''cracker'']
    Tiff, please do not use extreme statements. There are SOME Asians who have used chinks in casual conversations with friends and even in screennames (whether or not they are Chinese). “Beaner” is a derogatory word for Mexican Americans (or Hispanics in general) and used by SOME Hispanics. And there are probably a few white people who have used cracker as a joke.
    All racial terms are wrong and politically incorrect. I understand people have good intentions when bring this issue to YG Entertainment, but the dramatizing is not necessary.
    The huge argument on the YG Family board could have been avoided too. And letting everyone know that you’re boycotting YG just encourages other people to have resentment to this company. Might as well have resentment to all international artists who reflect American culture.
    I have only been into Asian pop for 2-3 years now, but these kinds of things such as other artists using n word shouldn’t be hard to find out. Brian Joo used the n word on Love Letter, JTL have used in their lyrics, and Verbal from m-flo has used the word in a song, etc.
    Yes, people should notify about the matter because not many people have told them that it’s wrong to say that. But please do it a rational manner. Getting upset so easily will lose your focus.
    Also, I’d like to see more American artists to apologize for using that word in their lyrics. How often do we see that in America? And moreover, I never seen a Black artist apologizing for using that term.
    ^_^ hi Laura.
    the words i used were cited because they too originated by racist people to dehumanize/insult certain races. and altho you say that some people of those races use those words towards each other in passing, why is it that you don’t see them calling it to each other in the music industry. why is it so right for everybody to use the N word, but if anybody says either one of those words it’s suddenly wrong. i really want to understand this. because in my eyes it seems as if people are trying to devalue what so many people are standing for using the warped media representation of the black community as an example.
    i don’t know if you’ve ever encountered blatant racism but i have. and let me tell you. some people actually believe all the malarky they see on tv about our race.
    ~~~~~~~~
    my original intentions of the letter was to have YG entertainment stand up to what they expressed in their company ”vision” and apologize for Seungri’s mistake.

    the drama on the YG board, i had no part in because i am not registered there, but i was reading every response, and i have to say that Cindel was just posting her thoughts to the staff. and it was the OTHER people who first started with her, calling her names, telling her to shut up, that her thoughts weren’t valid because of her nationality and race. from my understanding THAT is when she called the krnbora or whatever a racist. so yeah. i do think that the discussion between them went off track a bit, but it wasn’t fully her fault. even when the girl/guy kept harassing her, i asked her to ignore it because it was unnecessary. so yeah

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    about the other people in K-pop using the N word, i had not know this, because i am not a fan of theirs…so i don’t follow their activities. however, i’d like for everybody to please visit this discussion board about an incident on a KBS show with Leslie Benfield, Seoul’s first foriegn civil servant, who also happens to be African American:
    http://metropolitician.blogs.com/scribblings_of_the_metrop/2006/12/demand_of_an_of.html
    it is similar to what we first wanted to accomplish.
    i came across this on Soompi and it made me sad…because it just goes to show how much of a negative light is shed on African Americans.
    ~~~~~~~~

    like i said before about the Black artists, i even wrote to BET asking them to do something about the disrespect towards women, the ”ghettofab” glorification, and everything like that in the videos they play…and they just flat out sent the message that they will not…and again: that’s the reason why i don’t watch/support them….

    ~~~~~~~~
    i understand what you say when we should keep our focus and not get emotional over it, and we will try to keep it that way.
    please try to understand our anger/hurt because ever since i first asked for the letters to be written, we’ve been getting very nasty things said to us, people telling us we don’t matter, and all kinds of things from people who we THOUGHT were our friends.
    so just know that we aren’t trying to maliciously attack anybody or ”end his career” or anything of the sort. i am still a fan of YG and all of his artists, and i still
    RESPECT them, but it’s hard to keep our heads level when we have to deal with so many difficult people…
    ~~~~~~
    i hope you can understand where i’m coming from.

    Laura, You felt it wasn’t necessary however I think otherwise. Also if you notice, I was the one being attacked for my “unpopular” opinion. If you notice that krnbora person told me to “fuck off because I wasn’t korean” and that “YG doesn’t need my N*** money”.

    How can someone possibly ignore that?

  9. 10 anna

    to JuicyFruit21,

    like i said in Bimmy’s before during Seungri’s issue, NOBODY EVER SAID IT WAS RIGHT. you misunderstand our explanation very much, and always dimiss them as “excuses”.

    the point is, every country has their own social standards. it doesn’t need explaning how Asian culture is very different from Western culture. if you think Asians should learn the history of African-Americans, or the history of the N word, it’s likewise necessary for you to learn our culture. it’s not a one-way street.

    and sorry to say this but i find it really absurd re: all this fuss about Wu’s N word usage when in “Ready or Not Yo!” both Teddy and Danny used the word, and this was way back in 2000, and if you are a fan of 1TYM for a couple of years at least it makes me wonder how is it that you have never heard of this song. and before anyone misunderstands, i don’t mean that YG is excusable now since they have a history and reputation for using the N word in lyrics. what i’m saying is…it boggles my mind how some of their old songs escaped scrutiny.

  10. 11 JF21

    anna, like i said i was not a fan of YG in 2000…heck i didn’t even know what k-pop was until 2002

    and also, me hearing not EVERY SINGLE SONG doesn’t make me any less of a fan. maybe less obsessed than most but not less of a fan..i still have not heard that song. and like i said before it made me upset when you guys pointed that out.

    as for learning about your culture..i
    have..and i still am. i actually go OUT OF MY WAY to learn about Asian culture. so you’re wrong about me not thinking it’s a two way street.
    don’t you think that if you were to sing/dance/dress/represent a certain culture, you’d atleast show some type of knowledge/respect towards it…i do….

    i don’t know if you checked out the web page i posted but i quoted this from Scribblings of the Met (the address i posted a earlier)

    This is the “post-Hines Ward” era, so Korean society can no longer hide behind the excuse that it “didn’t know.” South Korea represents itself as a “globalized” society, takes pride in being the 11th largest economy in the world, and at having developed the most advanced broadband, cellphone, and semi-conductor sectors in the world, yet it still hides behind a shameful veneer of “innocent ignorance as a developing, pre-modern country” when issues such as these come up.

    This is, frankly, hard to swallow. Korean society now “knows.” It is time to for the media to behave responsibly. Media images have power, and they lead to stereotyping, which leads to discriminative behavior. In the end, they are dehumanizing.

    i think they said it better than i…

    it seems as if some have some strange vendetta against me…0.o

    either way, i still stand by my original letter, feelings , and beliefs. nobody can tell me how much of a fan i am, and just because i stand up for what i believe does NOT mean that i not a fan.

  11. 12 anna

    jf21,

    again, you misunderstand what i said. nowhere in my post did i say or imply that you’re less of a fan. i said i was wondering how come old songs escaped scrutiny. it was a valid question, any 1TYM/YG fan would wonder that.(and considering 1TYM in their 9 years do not have that many songs, let’s say an average of 10-11 per album if you don’t count the fillers like intro/outro.) but ok, you never heard some of their songs for some reasons, fine….

    and if you mean me, no i do not have “some strange vendetta” against you, i just don’t agree with your views. it’s not personal.

    and yes, that quote you posted, i agree with that. time will change things, maybe 2 or 3 generations from now, but it’s not going to be right away.
